Bläserquintett
Years of intensive collaboration have lent the Brass Quintet of the Staatskapelle Berlin an extraordinary homogeneity in terms of sound and musicality. The musicians making up the ensemble – all first solo brass players in the Berliner Staatskapelle – have proven their first-rate instrumental capabilities in numerous concerts, both at home and abroad.
Their vital musicianship and programming, quite often exceptional for its zest for the new in the face of a brass quintet repertoire frequently perceived as confined, has brought them much acclaim. In addition to numerous debut performances of successful works, the musicians also consistently premiere new works, such as those they commissioned by Detlev Glanert and Frank Raschke.

The members of the Brass Quintet of the Staatskapelle Berlin also participate in numerous additional ensembles including the Berlin Brass Soloists, the variazione ensemble and the 14 Berlin Flutists.
They are in demand as soloists and chamber music partners and have given numerous guest performances with such artists as Daniel Barenboim throughout Europe, the USA, Japan and Israel. Particular attention is due their work with young musicians at international courses, including the West-Eastern Divan Workshop with Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said as well as their teaching activities at various German music academies.
For more than a decade now, the quintet has dedicated its time to giving regular concerts within the scope of the Chamber Music Series of the Staatskapelle at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, allowing the public a glimpse of their extraordinary breadth of repertoire. In the autumn of 2009 Mathias Baier joined the quintett in the place of Ingo Reuter.
