Music Theatre Academy for Kids - 2nd year
Patron: Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag
THE SECOND YEAR OF THE »KIDS’ COLLEGE« FOR YOUNG OPERA FANS
Can you create a storm on a stage? How long does it take to finish sewing all the costumes? And do the singers really sing so loud that everyone in the audience can hear them? The »Music Theatre Academy for Kids« answers these questions and more, creating space for children to explore and be fascinated by the stage world and allowing them to dive into its music, its long history and its many stories. Since children also want to know exactly how everything is made and who the people are that have chosen professions in the theatre, the Academy presents the artistic, technical and »invisible« theatre professions and provides glimpses of the tasks they involve.
Every first Sunday of the month, when the workshop of the Schiller Theater is transformed into a lecture hall, artists and other music theatre professionals will be letting young students between nine and thirteen years of age in on the secrets of the business, explaining and demonstrating what they do in the opera, where the ideas come from and how those ideas are turned into reality. Children will be given the chance to ask questions and find out how an opera is created.
For an application, interested children should send an essay or a picture that show your curiosity and enthusiasm towards the opera. Please direct your application, mentioning your parents address and e-mail address to:
Junge Staatsoper
Musiktheaterakademie für Kinder
Bismarckstraße 110
10625 Berlin
The Academy is being sponsored in cooperation with the Roland Berger Foundation, which supports gifted and talented children in difficult circumstances. Children of the Kinderopernhaus des Caritasverbandes für das Erzbistum Berlin in Lichtenberg have been admitted to a number of seats at the Academy.
