The diverse musical culture of France comes to the fore at the BAROCKTAGE festival. »Idoménée«, a large-scale tragic opera and a central work of French baroque opera with an abundance of vocal, instrumental and dance pieces by André Campra, can be experienced in Berlin for the first time. This premiere is accompanied by the revival of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s »Hippolyte et Aricie«, whose spectacular stage and lighting design by Ólafur Elíasson created a sensation at its premiere during the inaugural BAROCKTAGE 2018. Christoph Willibald Gluck’s »Orfeo ed Euridice« is a key work of European opera that incorporates Italian and French traditions. In addition to operatic performances, the programme of the ten-day festival in November includes numerous concerts by outstanding representatives from the early music scene, while the Staatskapelle Berlin goes on tour throughout Europe.
