In 2019, the BAROCKTAGE festival at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden will focus on two composers over the course of a ten-day festival programme: the Italian, Alessandro Scarlatti and the Englishman, Henry Purcell. As direct contemporaries, they shaped the music centres of Rome, Naples and London. Their music ranged from compositions for church and court to chamber music. The BAROCKTAGEN 2019 will shed light on Scarlatti and Purcell from almost every angle: the programme features Scarlatti’s scenic oratorio »Il Primo Omicidio«, his concertante oratorio »La Vergine Addolorata«, Purcell’s »Dido & Aeneas« and »King Arthur« and a whole series of concerts including cantatas and chamber music. As a “special feature”, there will be a music theatre performance by Letizia Renzini, which focuses on music by Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti.
