Konzert im Pierre Boulez Saal I
In the first of two concerts by the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Pierre Boulez Saal, New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New makes her debut with the orchestra. Together with tenor Stephan Rügamer, she presents Benjamin Britten’s Serenade, one of the most famous works the composer wrote for the tenor Peter Pears. Also on the program is Joseph Haydn’s final symphony, with which he celebrated a particular success in London in 1795. The concert opens with the energetic Strum by American composer Jessie Montgomery, composed in 2012.
