Konzert im Pierre Boulez Saal II

Andreas Ottensamer, the long-time principal clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, has also been performing as a conductor around the world for several years. The four works in his program with the Staatskapelle Berlin are all connected to his hometown of Vienna: Mozart conducted his Symphony in A major there in 1783, and Schoenberg began work on his Second Chamber Symphony in Vienna, which he completed decades later in the United States as a tonally oriented work. Franz Schreker composed his Intermezzo shortly after graduating from the Vienna Conservatory. Finally, after years of serving as a Kapellmeister and undertaking celebrated tours abroad — during which he received an honorary doctorate from Oxford — Joseph Haydn spent the last years of his life in Vienna.
