International Opera Studio

For more than 15 years, the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden has been a meeting point for talented singers from all over the world. Since its foundation in 2007, it has offered young members a practical introduction to professional life after their singing studies. They are supervised and trained by conductor and vocal coach Boris Anifantakis. A number of graduates of the Opera Studio have gone on to join the ensemble of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden or other renowned opera houses.

The aim of the two-year course is to prepare studio members for the demands of today's opera business. They are put in a position to integrate the skills and knowledge acquired during their studies into the daily processes of rehearsals and performances and to implement them in the best possible way. They receive guidance and individual support from employees of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and guest lecturers.

The training content includes the study of vocal parts, language coaching, movement and audition training, scenic lessons, dialogues and master classes with renowned artists from the world of opera, whose example can have an inspiring effect. Performances in productions at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in small and medium - and sometimes large - roles are also essential. Furthermore, the scholarship holders also take part in concerts in various formats on the stage of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, in the Apollosaal and at other venues. Acting as a “cover” and the associated preparation is also an integral part of the training. In addition, studio members are given the opportunity, depending on their vocal aptitude and in consultation with the studio management, to rehearse larger roles independently of the repertoire performed at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

The members of the Opera Studio receive a monthly stipend as well as remuneration for their participation in performances at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
