MAY I PHOTOGRAPH, VIDEO, OR RECORD PERFORMANCES?
No. Image and sound recording by visitors during the performance are not permitted. Selected photos of our productions and performers are available in the Opernshop in the main foyer of the Staatsoper. The Opernshop, open one hour preceding each performance and during intermission, offers a variety of books, CD’s, DVD’s, and souvenirs.

IS THE STAATSOPER ACCESSIBLE TO DISABLED PERSONS?
The Unter den Linden opera house is fully accessible to disabled persons. Wheelchair accessible seating is available in the parquet as well as the tiers. For the hard of hearing, an induction loop system has been installed at all seats. More informations here.

CAN I DECIDE TO GO TO THE OPERA AT THE LAST MINUTE?
Visitors who come spontanously may often find themselves lucky at the evening box office. If seats are still available, those who qualify for discounts can purchase tickets for 13 EUR each, beginning about 30 minutes before the performance. Holders of a ClassicCard pay only 8 EUR for concerts and 10 EUR for opera or ballet. Choice of seating is not available.

CAN I RETURN TICKETS?
Returning tickets for a refund is generally not possible. An exception can be made if the announced programme has been replaced by a different one, in which case tickets may be returned before the performance. Changes in cast are not grounds for returning tickets. Expired tickets cannot be accepted or replaced. Please refer tou our Terms and Conditions for further information.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A SINGER BECOMES ILL?
A replacement will be found. Cast changes occur, because of cancellations, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances and are not grounds for returning tickets.

HOW IS IT THAT CAST CHANGES CAN BE ACCOUNTED FOR IN EVENING‘S PROGRAM BOOKLET?
Cast lists are printed the day of the performance. Thus they are assured to be current. Discrepancies only occur if a last-minute cancellation occurs after the evening’s cast list has already been printed.

WILL I STILL BE LET IN IF I ARRIVE LATE?
Latecomers can take their seats at the first »artistically appropriate moment«. Such a moment may be a natural pause within the work itself, or follow from the discretion of the director or conductor. Ushers may also deem appropriate a moment of applause or a scene change. Each evening may vary in this respect. This is not our policy alone, but a national and international convention. Incidentally, there are also opera houses who close their doors to latecomers altogether.

HOW MUCH DOES THE COAT CHECK COST?
Coat check is free to all visitors of the Staatsoper, and can be found either left or right of the main foyer. Checked items will be insured according to the regulations posted.

WHAT TO WEAR
Much appreciated – and quite common – is smart evening attire. This recommendation applies especially to premieres and gala-performances. Art merits respect and this may also be shown in proper clothing. Generally, however, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden does not have a dress code or a suit-and-tie rule. You can dress yourself in a way that you feel comfortable with and that seems appropriate to you. We wish you a pleasant time at our opera house.

ARE THERE SURTITELS?
We offer German and English surtitles on two adjacent displays that hang in the center over the stage. We are kindly asking for your understanding that due to architectural circumstances the surtitles are not readable from all seats. This applies primarily to seats at the side on the parquet level and the back rows in the lateral I. balcony.
