Beethoven-Zyklus IV

Program

Ludwig van Beethoven

SYMPHONY NO. 2 D MAJOR OP. 36
SYMPHONY NO. 9 D MINOR OP. 125

Dates

In 1826 Beethoven dedicated the first printed edition of his Symphony No. 9, one of the undisputed peaks of his career, to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. In the same year, concert master Carl Moeser conducted the Königliche Kapelle (Royal Orchestra) for the Berlin premiere of this work, with its famous full chorus finale. Coupling this work with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 of 1802/03 promises both tension and balance.
