The film and TV director and screenwriter Damián Szifron was born on the 9th of July, 1975 in Argentina. In 2002, he created, wrote and directed “Los Simuladores” (The Pretenders), a multi award-winning TV series, that was remade in Spain, Russia, Mexico, Turkey and Chile. “Los Simuladores” remains the most successful TV series ever in Argentina, where it was repeated nine times during prime time. In 2003, Damián Szifron released his debut film “El fondo del mar” (The Bottom of the Sea), which won important prizes in film festivals worldwide, like Mar del Plata, San Sebastian and Toulouse. In 2005, he wrote and directed “Tiempo de valientes” (On Probation). Today considered a cult film, it opened to great success with critics and audiences alike, winning national and international awards in film festivals like Málaga and Biarritz. In 2006, he wrote and directed the hit-TV series “Hermanos & detectives”, which also was remade in Spain, Italy, Russia and Mexico. In 2014, Damián Szifron wrote and directed “Relatos salvajes” (Wild Tales). Produced by Hugo Sigman and Pedro Almodóvar, the film was in competition for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a ten-minute standing ovation. In Argentina, it became the most successful Argentinean film of all time. Released all over the world, “Relatos salvajes” was nominated for an Academy Award (Best Foreign Language Film), it won the British Academy Film Award (Best Film Not in the English Language), the Goya (Spain), and more than 40 international prizes in festivals like Toronto, San Sebastian, Telluride, Sundance, La Habana and San Pablo. Damián Szifron is currently preparing “Misanthrope”, an original US thriller starring Shailene Woodley, and “The Stranger”, a global-scale sci-fi series to be produced by Media Rights Capital, the company behind “House of Cards”.
