Premiere for the Social Run of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden
The Staatsoper Unter den Linden is expanding its audience offerings with a new and unusual format: the Social Run – a ‘running tour’ through a particularly beautiful part of Berlin and, at the same time, through Berlin's music and opera history.
Berlin is a city of culture and also a city of running enthusiasts – with the Social Run, the Staatsoper aims to combine both aspects. On selected Saturday mornings, interested parties will have the opportunity to take part in a group run.
On an approximately 8.5-kilometre route from the opera house on Unter den Linden to and through the Tiergarten, the run will take in several points of interest, where short stops will provide exciting insights into the history of the Staatsoper as well as Berlin's music and cultural history.
The stations in detail:
- Concert Hall on Gendarmenmarkt
- Classical monument (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven)
- Former location of the Kroll Opera House
- Monument to Albert Lortzing
- Monument to Richard Wagner
- Brandenburg Gate
At each of these points, which are approximately 1 to 1.5 kilometres apart, information is provided that, when taken together, forms a brief history of music and opera in Berlin. The focus is on the connections to the State Opera, for example with regard to the composers to whom the Tiergarten monuments are dedicated, as well as the connections between the State Opera and the Staatskapelle with the concert venues along the route, the Konzerthaus and the Kroll Opera, which played a prominent role as the ‘State Opera on the Square of the Republic’ during the Weimar Republic.
The Social Run is conceived and accompanied as a cross-departmental project by employees of the State Opera. The aim is to combine sporting activity and knowledge transfer in a stimulating way.

Requirements: running clothing and shoes appropriate for the season, sufficient running fitness to cover a distance of approx. 8.5 kilometres at an average running speed of 8 to 9 kilometres per hour (corresponding to a time of approx. 6:30/6:45 minutes per kilometre).
Everyone runs at their own risk; a medical emergency kit will be carried. Liability for damage to health, property and financial loss is excluded.
