Sunday shopping at KulturKaufhaus on 11 October
For the 20th time, KulturKaufhaus Dussmann on Friedrichstraße, in cooperation with the Friends of the State Opera Association, is hosting the popular “Sunday for the Staatsoper” event. This year, the celebration is dedicated to the Berlin Children's Opera House (Kinderopernhaus Berlin), which is directly affiliated with the Berlin State Opera Under the Linden (Staatsoper Unter den Linden).
For more than 15 years, its mission has been: opera created by children and young people for children and young people, all under fully professional working conditions. Guided by artists from the Staatskapelle Berlin and the International Opera Studio, several hundred children each season discover the world of musical theater.
The Children's Opera House is active not only in the heart of Berlin but also on the city's outskirts, providing many young people with their very first, and often deeply formative, encounter with the art form of opera.
The value of this initiative is reflected in a recent honor: in July 2026, founder Regina Lux-Hahn was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) for her outstanding commitment.
This year's anniversary Sunday offers fascinating insights into the project's inspiring work. Look forward to musical performances, engaging panel discussions, and plenty of enjoyment on and in front of the stage together with ensembles from the Berlin State Opera Under the Linden.
