Konzert zum 90. Geburtstag von Zubin Mehta | 3. Mai 2026 Zubin Mehta

The Honorary Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin is turning 90. Since the 1990s, he has regularly rehearsed and conducted opera performances and concerts at the venue and with the orchestra; these have often become true highlights of fulfilling, harmonious music-making. To mark his milestone birthday, which Zubin Mehta is celebrating together with the Staatskapelle, he has selected music by two composers who have accompanied him throughout his career and continue to inspire him. Mozart’s Symphony in G minor, the centerpiece of the trio of his famous late symphonies from 1788, will be performed alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, which was added to the program at the last minute in place of Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony. Beethoven’s Symphony has become one of the composer’s most popular symphonies thanks to its characteristic funeral march in the second movement and the unbridled rhythms in the third and fourth movements.
