Erfolgreiche Wiederaufnahme von Beethovens »Fidelio« in der Regie von Jürgen Flimm an der New Yorker Metropolitan Opera
Heute Abend findet die zweite Vorstellung von Beethovens »Fidelio« in der Regie von Jürgen Flimm in New York statt. Die Wiederaufnahme am vergangenen Donnerstag, 16. März, wurde für den Regisseur und das gesamte Ensemble rund um Klaus Florian Vogt als Florestan, Adrianne Pieczonka als Leonore, Greer Grimsley als Don Pizarro, Falk Struckmann als Rocco, Günther Groissböck als Don Fernando sowie Dirigent Sebastian Weigle zum großen Erfolg bei Publikum und Presse!
2000 gab Jürgen Flimm mit dieser Produktion sein Debüt an der Metropolitan Opera und die New York Times resümiert: »The Met Opera’s ‘Fidelio’ looks good at 17. How does an opera company keep an ambitious production vibrant and vital when it’s revived? The best way, of course, is to bring back the original director [...] His participation paid off. Mr. Flimm’s production makes a virtue of the story’s vagueness [… and] strengthens the opera’s idealized themes by presenting the story through resonant contemporary details…«.
Bis in die kleinen Rollen erntete das gesamte Ensemble großen Beifall: »Ms. Pieczonka [...] brings an affecting blend of emotional vulnerability and valiant determination to Leonora« (The New York Times). Über Klaus Florian Vogt als Florestan heißt es in der Presse: »One true bright spot, even in the extremely gloomy prison cell set for act two, was tenor Klaus Florian Vogt as Leonore’s oppressed husband Florestan [...] his sound is absolutely true and at least as penetrating as any other in this cast, a sweet and even innocent tone suggesting the beauty and purity of Florestan’s beliefs. Usually finale of this opera depicts the rescue of a great but flesh-and-blood man; when Vogt stepped forth into the sunlight, it seemed a rebirth of the human spirit« (Observer).
Die New York Classical Review berichtet außerdem: »The Met Orchestra was brilliant under the baton of Sebastian Weigle – limpid but energetic, playing with beautiful tenderness in the score’s softer moments«.
Bis zum 8. April läuft die Produktion noch sechs Mal an der Metropolitan Opera. Bei den letzten beiden Vorstellungen am 5. und 8. April übernimmt James Morris die Partie des Don Fernando.
In Berlin ist ab dem 22. April Jürgen Flimms Inszenierung von Mozarts »Le nozze di Figaro« an sechs Abenden (bis zum 4. Mai) wieder zu erleben – mit der Premierenbesetzung um u. a. Dorothea Röschmann in ihrer Paraderolle als Gräfin Almaviva, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo als Graf Almaviva, Anna Prohaska in der Partie der Susanna, Lauri Vasar in der Titelrolle und Marianne Crebassa als Cherubino. Die musikalische Leitung der Wiederaufnahme übernimmt Pablo Heras-Casado.
