In La forza del destino, Giuseppe Verdi vividly presents existential conflicts and in a musical panorama, setting them against the backdrop of images of society between religious piety and the turmoil of war. The famous overture already combines central motifs of destiny and inner conflict. Expansive arias open psychological abysses, powerful ensembles and choral tableaus drive the sometimes ironic inevitability of events. Philippe Jordan, an established expert on Verdi’s work, will conduct this new production. Vasily Barkhatov will repeatedly return the story to the traumatic event at the start and traces out the psychological lives of the characters from various perspectives.
