Initiated by Daniel Barenboim in 1996, the Festtage have been held annually at Staatsoper for more than thirty years now, a highlight of Berlin’s cultural life each spring with outstanding opera and concert performances.
In 2027, Giacomo Puccini’s dramma lirico Manon Lescaut will come to the stage of the Staatsoper in a new production with an excellent cast. Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser, a pioneering work of Romantic opera, will also return to the repertoire, conducted by Christian Thielemann. The general music director will also be conducting a special performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Staatskapelle and the Staatsopernchor at the Staatsoper to mark the bicentennial anniversary of the composer’s death, which the international music world will be commemorating in late March 2027. And finally, the audience can look forward to the return of Joyce DiDonato, who will perform a concert once again as she did two years ago at the Festtage.
